A Butterfly Story

Butterfly. Purple Asters. Autumn. Red Admiral. (c) Holly Maxwell Boydell www.TheHollyTreeTales.com

Once upon a time, there was a butterfly …

Who had once been a caterpillar, had learned many things as a caterpillar, had thought it had all the time in the world to be a caterpillar …

Until everything changed.

When the butterfly woke up, after many life-changing experiences, it realised that it had wings.

It realised that it had been transformed.

It realised that it was beautiful, not only as a caterpillar, but as a butterfly too.

It saw that crawling was no longer an option, and so it learnt to fly…

It flapped its fragile wings once or twice, faltered, tried again, felt discomfort, rested, tried again, was tempted to give up, tried once more, and then again …

And finally it took off towards the sunshine.

The little butterfly could do it.

It could fly free!

It could be the beautiful butterfly that it was made to be.

And as the butterfly flew, it knew that it knew how to live in the moment.

Being a caterpillar had taught it how.

Something deep inside told the butterfly, “Live fully, live well, live just for NOW.”
