Calm is not avoiding the difficult decision.

It is becoming settled enough inside ourselves to make the decision we can stand by afterwards.

A calm decision is not always the easiest decision.

It is the one you can meet with honesty tomorrow morning.

Sometimes the easiest decision is the one that gives us immediate relief…

Say yes.

Say no.

Walk away.

Give in.

Push harder.

Make the problem disappear as quickly as possible.

Yet, did you know…

Relief and peace are not always the same thing?

I have learned that some of the decisions that bring the greatest peace are also the ones that require the greatest courage

And the greatest restraint.

They ask us to slow down when everything around us is demanding an answer…

* To sit with discomfort rather than react to it.

* To separate what is urgent from what actually matters.

* To tell ourselves the truth.

And then to choose from that place.

This is one of the reasons I believe so deeply in CALM FIRST.

Calm does not mean passive.

It does not mean indecisive.

And it certainly does not mean choosing the comfortable path.

Calm gives us enough space, between what is happening and what we do next, to ask:

What decision will I still respect when I wake up tomorrow morning?

* Not because everybody else agrees with it.

* Not because it was painless.

* Not because it produced an immediate result…

Because it was made with clarity, integrity and courage.

That matters in business.

It matters in leadership.

It matters in families.

In fact, it matters enormously when life becomes complicated.

We cannot always control the choices in front of us.

What we CAN do is become the person who meets them differently.

Pause.

Think clearly.

Decide well.

That is calm leadership.

That is how we get to sustainable outcomes more successfully.
