Crochet As Self Care

Crochet by Holly M Boydell (c) www.TheHollyTreeTales.com

One of the skills I learnt as a little girl, was to crochet.

I remember being taught as a child of nine or ten, to crochet at boarding school.

My school at that time, Girls Collegiate (now The Wykeham Collegiate) in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, was a place of many special learnings, even though it was so very hard to be away from my family and home. It was the special little things that we experienced that took the big sting out of it for me …

Some of what I learnt then, I still draw on in my day to day life, decades later.

This little cushion cover is one that I crocheted in Australia, using cotton, when our children were little.

The cushion inside, I made as well. It is a simple calico outer layer and then filled.

These are the little things that make a house a home and the process of making them is self care, so relaxing and very good for our brains.

Doing tasks by hand, away from technology, is a useful way to keep ourselves brain-flexed and emotionally supported too.

What little things do you enjoy doing that make you feel at home within you and in your surroundings?

Mindfully,

Holly x
